Traditionally, this year some of the most popular artists of our time, including Taylor Swift, Lord, Fergie, Jennifer Lopez, Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj, One Direction and many others hit the stage.
In the category “Artist of the Year” the award got the British boy band One Direction. The band also won in the category “Favorite pop/rock band or duo” and “Favorite Pop / Rock Album” for their record Midnight Memories. The breakthrough of the year went to the Australian band 5 Seconds of Summer, which is sometimes called “the new One Direction”. “Single of the Year”, “Favorite pop / rock singer” and “Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist” – all went to one and only Katy Perry. Beyoncé won a trophy for her LP Beyoncé, which was awarded the title “Favorite soul/R&B album”. She also won in the category “Favorite soul/R&B female artist.”
Australian rap singer Iggy Azalea has repeatedly appeared on stage with their singles Fancy and Beg for It, and as a guest artist with Jennifer Lopez and their joint single “Booty”. Iggy Azalea won in the nomination “Favorite hip-hop / rap artist”, and her debut album The New Classic became a favorite album in these genres. “Favorite artist in electronic music” went to Calvin Harris, in the alternative – to Imagine Dragons, and in Latin – to Enrique Iglesias. “Favorite country female artist” was awarded to Carrie Underwood, and the best band in the same genre became Florida Georgia Line, while the best country album was named Just As I Am Brantley Gilbert.
