This was stated by the deputy commander of the DPR militia headquarters, Eduard Basurin, reports Donetsk news agency.
The DNR representative accused the Ukrainian military of violating the truce. “AFU (Armed Forces of Ukraine) are again firing at the airport and surrounding areas,” – he said.
Earlier, on February 16, pro-Russian fighters reported that Ukrainian army fired at the Donetsk airport from the directions of Opytnoe and Vodino. A nearby village of Oktyabrsky was also under fire. Eduard Basurin, accompanied by some 30 journalists, was at the airport when firing was heard.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in turn, rejected accusations of firing attacks. The speaker of the General Staff, Vladislav Seleznev called militia the statement by pro-Russian fighters a provocation and stressed that Ukrainian army only opens fire as the response to attacks.
The Ukrainian side announced the withdrawal of weapons on February 17, if the situation with the military hostilities in Donbass will remain at least at the same level. The deputy head of the presidential administration of Ukraine, Valeriy Chaly, noted that if there is no complete ceasefire, it will be impossible to talk about the withdrawal of troops. The speaker of the military operation Andrei Lysenko, in turn, noted that the Ukrainian side is not ready yet to withdraw weapons, but “it is prepared.”
On February 12, after long negotiations in Minsk, a series of measures to resolve the conflict in Donbass was adopted. In particular, the document provides for complete ceasefire as of 00:00 Kiev time on February 15 and the withdrawal of heavy weapons from the war zone and monitoring by OSCE of the truce.
