The agency notes that today people pay 1.1 hryvnia per cubic meter. From April, Ukrainians will have to pay for 4.1 hryvnia.
Demchishin explained that the rise in prices was one of the conditions for granting financial assistance by the International Monetary Fund (IMF). According to the official, the IMF proposed to sharply increase tariffs for the population to match the prices of imported fuel. The Minister also noted that the government could not agree to that.
According to the agency, at the moment, gas for cooking needs costs about 15 hryvnia per month, and for heating – 460 hryvnia (for an apartment of 50 square meters). In April, the price will rise to 62 and 760 hryvnia, respectively.
Earlier, the head of the National Bank of Ukraine, Valeriya Gontareva said that the regulator expects inflation for the year at the level of 25-26 percent. The forecast for the growth of prices has been aggravated due to the increased tariffs for gas and heat as agreed with the IMF. At the same utilities will go up on a quarterly basis in the next two to three years.
On February 17, the Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation, Alexander Novak said that the question of extending the discount on gas for Ukraine remains unresolved. He noted that even with the declining of world energy price, the price of gas for Kiev will go up. “Most likely, the price will decrease according to the formula, because the cost of oil products, which is used to determine the price of gas, has decreased. But it cannot decline relative to the first quarter, where there were discounts,”- said Novak.
On October 31, 2014 Ukraine, Russia and the European Commission signed in Brussels all necessary documents for winter gas plan. They provide for the repayment by Kiev by the end of the year of 3.1 billion from $ 5.3 billion debt and purchasing from Gazprom additional gas on a pre-paid basis.
According to the agreement, Moscow will provide Kiev with a discount of $ 100 per one thousand cubic meters. Thus, the price of Russian gas for Ukraine is 378 dollars per one thousand cubic meters. The discount is valid until the end of the first quarter of 2015.
