Medvedev instructed Gazprom

This was stated by the head of the Government in a cabinet meeting on Thursday, February 19, reports Interfax.

“I would like for the Ministry of Energy together with Gazprom to prepare proposals for humanitarian assistance in the form of gas supply for the needs of these regions [Donetsk and Lugansk regions] if steps for gas supply based on the usual scheme will not be taken, – said Medvedev, – People should not freeze over there.”

The Prime Minister also ordered to deliver to the affected regions of eastern Ukraine food and medicine. “People in a number of towns are literally starving, including in Debaltseve,” – said the Prime Minister.

After Ukraine stopped supplying gas to the Donbass region, representatives of the self-proclaimed People’s Republic of Donetsk announced their plans to switch to the Russian fuel.

On February 17, the Ukrtransgaz Company reported about a break in the pipe that goes from the main gas pipeline “Novopskov – Kramatorsk” through the Donetsk region. The damaged portion of the pipeline was cut off, and five distribution stations were left without gas.
