“Before Minsk talks, at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, I warned that if cease-fire fails we will need to make a very difficult but necessary decision to impose martial law in the country. I emphasize once again: in this case, martial law will be imposed not only in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, but also across the whole country,”- said Poroshenko.

The President of Ukraine also said on Saturday, February 14, that before the cease-fire in accordance to Minsk agreements comes into effect, he intends to speak over the phone with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and US President Barack Obama.

Earlier this week, the participants of the negotiators on Ukrainian conflict settlement in Minsk agreed to a ceasefire as of 00:00 Kiev time on February 15.

Under the agreement, it is planned to withdraw heavy weapons of the Ukrainian Army from the actual line of contact, and for militias – from the line defined in Minsk memorandum from September 19, 2014. The document stated that the withdrawal of heavy weapons should begin no later than the second day after the cease-fire and be completed within 14 days.
