“On the Independence Day of Ukraine President Poroshenko awarded Ukrainian film director, screenwriter Oleg Sentsov <…> with the Order” For Courage ” of third degree”, – was said by the press service of the Ukrainian president on Sunday.
The FSB of Russia earlier announced the arrest of members of a subversive group “The right sector” who were preparing terrorist attacks in Yalta, Sevastopol and Simferopol. Among the detainees was also Sentsov. As noted, they were giving confessionary statements, but the director did not plead guilty, noting that he was not a member of “The right sector”, and all the evidence against him was just the testimony of other detainees.
Meanwhile, in late June, a famous Russian film director Nikita Mikhalkov joined the address of the head of the National Union of Cinematographers of Ukraine Serhiy Trimbach to the Russian President Vladimir Putin requesting to release Sentsov.
Under the court decision, Sentsov is in custody, and the last time his arrest was extended until October 11.
On Sunday Poroshenko awarded with the same Order a Ukrainian pilot Nadezda Savchenko who is also detained in Russia. Savchenko, according to Russian investigators, served as a fire spotter during the shelling of the journalists from All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company in Ukraine, who later died. She was charged with complicity in the murder.
