According to the document, adopted by the Rada on January 15, service age is changed to 27 years old, while the number of reasons for deferment from military service is decreased. As stated in a statement from the press service, the law is aimed at regulating military recruitment, introducing criminal responsibility for evasion of military service and “expanding the list of categories of citizens who may be admitted to military service under the contract during a special period.”
A fourth wave of partial mobilization has begun in Ukraine on January 20. Mobilization is mandatory for all men aged 18 to 60 years. The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that since the beginning of partial mobilization Ukrainian citizens liable to military service received 73,000 summonses.
According to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, as of beginning of February, the plan of mailing summons has been achieved almost 100%. About 46 thousand people went through medical examination. In total, according to the military prosecutor’s office, it is planned to draft around 200 thousand people this year. According to the General Staff, as compared to the previous year, there are fewer volunteers among mobilized so far.
