This was stated on Thursday, February 19, by the US Department of State spokesman Jen Psaki.
“If Russia and the separatists, which it supports, will continue violating the agreements, they will have to pay for that. In addition, that will also lead to their further isolation,”- said Psaki. The United States condemn the activities of the separatists in the areas of Debaltseve and Mariupol, noted the spokesman of the Department of State, calling the continued fighting a violation of the Minsk agreements.
Psaki urged Russia and the separatists to “immediately cease any attacks, withdraw heavy weapons, and stop the inflow of soldiers and military equipment from Russia to Ukraine.” In addition, the representative of the State Department demanded from the separatists to comply with “their obligations.” At the same time, Psaki stressed out that Washington has still not made a decision on supplying weapons to Ukraine.
A concern about the ongoing military activities was also expressed by the White House spokesman Eric Schultz, reports Reuters. He urged the parties to the conflict to comply with the Minsk Agreements.
The epicenter of the military activities in the east of Ukraine after the conflict resumed on January 17, 2015 is the city of Debaltseve, which is located on the highway that connects Donetsk with Lugansk, and which is a major railway junction. Despite the ceasefire that came into effect, a grouping of the Armed Forces of Ukraine numbering several thousand soldiers was surrounded in the city – the position in this sector of the front came to be called “Debaltseve kettle”. On February 18, Debaltseve was taken under full control of the separatists’ units.
