California Governor Jerry Brown announced the state of emergency in the areas affected by the earthquake. He also ordered the state agencies to provide local authorities with any required help in the aftermath of the earthquake. Napa Fire Chief said that local rescuers have exhausted their own resources and are no longer able to transport all the wounded to medical facilities, to search for people who might be under the rubble, as well as to repair damaged pipelines, water and power lines.

Damage from the earthquake in California could reach $ 1 billion
Earthquake of magnitude 6.0 that took place in the northern part of the state of California could cost the United States economy anywhere from $ 500 million to $ 1 billion, reported on Monday American newspaper The New York Times referring to the US Geological Service.
According to the newspaper Los Angeles Times, after the earthquake at least 172 people with injuries of varying severity sought medical assistance in local hospitals. Mostly with fractures, abrasions, bruises and cut wounds. Three people were seriously injured, among them a 13-year-old boy.
The earthquake occurred at around 3:20 local time (14:20 Moscow time). Its epicenter was at the depth of about 11 kilometers. As noted the Los Angeles Times, the main impact was accompanied by more than 50 impacts of smaller force.
About 10 thousand residents of the city of Napa, which is located 9 km from the epicenter of the earthquake, are still without electricity, and another 600 homes have no running water. State governor Jerry Brown has announced a state of emergency.
Many houses have been destroyed, even some that have been additionally fortified for cases of seismic activity. After the earthquake several fires broke out, one of which – in the parking lot of house trailers – destroyed six of these houses. Due to a break in the nearest water pipe firemen were not able to connect to it to extinguish the fire.
The greatest damage in Napa was to its business district, where historic buildings such as the courthouse got damaged with a partially destroyed wall. Houses equipped with expensive modern system of protection against earthquakes got affected to a lesser extent, however, even in some of them ceilings collapsed ceilings and interiors got damaged.
According to scientists at UC Berkeley, an early warning system for earthquakes got triggered 10 seconds before people felt the impact.
Napa Valley, which came about as a result of an earthquake, is known for its vineyards, and many winemakers have suffered great losses due to the destruction of hundreds of bottles of wine.
In 1989 in the same region, there was an earthquake of a magnitude of 6.9, and more than 60 people got killed.
