The star of “Pacific Rim” and “Sons of Anarchy” will join the cast of the movie Sienna Miller and Robert Pattinson. A big screen adaptation of the eponymous bestselling book by David Grann will be directed by James Gray (“Little Odessa”, “The Immigrant”) who is planning to start filming this summer.
Last year Hunnam left the film adaptation of “Fifty Shades of Gray” with a scandal, where he was eventually replaced by Jamie Dornan. In “Lost City of Z” he will play a British explorer Percy Fawcett, who in 1920 disappeared in the jungles of Brazil during the search of El Dorado, which, as Fawcett claimed, he had found during a previous expedition.
Gray has been working on this project since 2008. In the early stages of production work it was assumed that the lead role will be given to Brad Pitt, who in the end will serve as a producer of “Lost City of Z”. Cumberbatch, who last year agreed to play in the movie, had to leave the project due to scheduling conflict.
