Putin's story of Crimea annexation

A short video excerpt showed some statements by the Russian leader.

“I invited to the Kremlin leaders of our special services, the Ministry of Defense, and gave them the task to save the life of the President of Ukraine. Or he would have been destroyed”, – said Putin.

“There were heavy machine guns over there. We were ready to extract him straight out of Donetsk, by land, by sea and by air. It was between the 22th and 23th (of February), and we were finished at about seven o’clock in the morning,”- said the Russian president.

“And in parting, I told all of my colleagues: we have to start working on returning the Crimea to Russia”, – added Putin.

The exact date and time of the movie broadcast haven’t been named. The roll captions announced that it will happen “soon”.

In February of last year, there was a change of power in Ukraine. This was done by bypassing the constitutional impeachment procedure. President Viktor Yanukovych fled first from Kiev, and then out of the country.

On March 16, 2014 there was a referendum in Crimea where 96 per cent voted in favor of annexation of the peninsula to Russia. On March 18, the republic’s authorities have signed an agreement with Russia on the Crimea and Sevastopol joining the country as new subjects.
