The first episode of this new TV series has been watched by about 6.6 million residents of the United Kingdom.
Second place in the ranking went to TV series Mr. Selfridge (with 3.2 million viewers), and the third – the colonial drama Indian Summer (with 2.5 million viewers).
The TV project The Casual Vacancy premiered on February 15 on BBC One in the UK and HBO in the US. The series tells a story of a provincial British town of Pegford. After the death of a member of the local government council, a fight for the vacant spot begins. A real war for power unfolds in the town in which every resident gets involved.
The Casual Vacancy stars Julia McKenzie (Miss Marple), Rory Kinnear (Quantum of Solace) and Michael Gambon (Dumbledore in the series of Harry Potter movies).
The Casual Vacancy, the first novel by J.K. Rowling intended for an adult audience, was released in September of 2012. During the first six days from its release in the US, more than 375,000 books have been purchased. At the moment, the novel has already sold more than six million copies.
